South Bend Regional Museum of Art in association with Lampkin Music Productions presents the Great American Salon Series: A Celebration of the Music of Berlin, Carmichael, Ellington, Gershwin, and Porter. A first-time production of its kind in South Bend, the Great American Salon Series is three top-notch musical events featuring performers from the region, several boasting international acclaim, singing the melodies of the greatest 20th century American composers in the finest setting possible, an art museum.
Speaking of first event that happened on March 21, producer Ralph Lampkin said, “We are pleased to continue our new salon series in the beautiful museum galleries. With the success of the first evening, the Great American Salon Series has brought back a sophisticated ambiance to entertainment. The intimate setting was perfect, the allure of Kelly Armentrout and the ambience of the museum’s permanent collection was a stunning musical/visual combination, and the food splendid.” Alan Larkin, the esteemed painter, said of the evening, "The setting was a warm mixture of the visual and performing arts. The food and wine were excellent, and Kelly Armentrout's rich voice should be added to the permanent collection of the museum.”
2nd Event on August 1, 2007, 6:30 p.m. (Rescheduled from July 18)
The series continues on August 1 with a songbook selection of Hoagy Carmichael and Cole Porter, a tribute to Roland Kelly, performed by his son Randy Kelly.
